And Who, You May be Thinking,
is Scone Village Association?
The group has been in existence for four years and has organized various courses for adults held mainly in the Glebe School before its closure; games evenings for younger children and a table tennis weekly evening for all ages.
However it has always been felt that one of the problems within Scone is how to let everyone in the village and the surrounding area know what is going on in Scone.
It has been common to use the local newspapers to give out information or news, but this is not always 100% successful and the Association felt that it was time that Scone had its own newspaper, as virtually every other village in Perth and Kinross has its own community newsletter.
You may have seen examples in Crieff, Auchterarder, Kinross, Alyth, Aberfeldy and Dunkeld, just to name a few.
So here we are, and the success of this venture will largely depend on you. We need contributions from every organization in Scone and surrounding area, any aspect of local news, and any topic that you think might be of interest to folk in Scone. This can be on any subject of your choice. A vibrant readers’ letter page is another area which could be developed, as there are several issues within the area which are somewhat controversial, and looking at issues or events from different perspectives is what local news and democracy are all about.
It is intended that the newsletter will be issued once every two months, and the first two issues will be delivered to every house in the PH2 6 postal code area. Thereafter, it will be available in local shops, with a small cover charge of 25p. If we can engender sufficient advertising revenue to cover our costs, we will make the newsletter free.
Spread the word about this new venture, bring forward any issue that you think is important for Scone, write an article on your pet topic, let people know what is happening in your organization a real chance to increase your membership - and we look forward to issue two, which will appear early in the New Year.
